Are you dreaming about becoming a real surfer? Our team of certified, experienced and multilingual surf instructors will introduce you to the basics of surfing with the help of special surfboards and equipment at our surf school at the Algarve in the southern region of Portugal . We take you to surf beaches that suit your level of surf skills, famous surf spots like Arrifana, Monte Clerigo or Amoreira. During our surf lessons on the west coast of the Algarve, you will learn the basics about waves, currents, tides and equipment, and also how to correctly paddle and handle the surfboard in the water.

At Algarve Watersport, we offer different types of surfing lessons to match everyone’s progression curve.
Each of the lesson types has its benefits and can be ideal for different people.
Group Lesson
Our standard lesson – you will be surfing in the group of 6 people per instructor.
Semi-private lesson
 Share the instructor with another student. Recommended lesson for kids.
Private lesson
 Learn basics and advanced techniques with the undivided attention of your instructor.Â
Where do we teach?
We take you to surf beaches that suit your level of surf skills, famous surf spots like Arrifana, Monte Clerigo or Amoreira. During our surf lessons on the west coast of the Algarve, you will learn the basics about waves, currents, tides and equipment, and also how to correctly paddle and handle the surfboard in the water.
Between June and August, we mostly surf on the west coast but sometimes we do use our spots close by in case of south swell.

Amazing Instructors
Our experienced and certified instructors with an ISA or FPS license will coach you and ensure you a great time on the water.
Surf Theory
At the beginning of the surf course, you will get to know the characteristics of the waves, currents and tides. Your surf instructor will also tell you the basics about the surf equipment.
Correct Technique
We will teach you everything about surfing in Portugal! At the end of the surf lesson, you will be able to paddle, take-off and dealing with the board without putting yourself or your surf mates in danger.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The lesson times are solely determined by the waves and tides, and the duration of a trip is approximately 4-5 hours. As the wave and tide conditions are constantly changing, we will announce the exact meeting time at 18:00 the day before your lesson. Rest assured that we will schedule the lessons according to your skill level and the prevailing conditions. Our aim is to provide you with the best possible experience!
The Surf conditions

A great number of beaches and wind-protected bays, the warm climate, and the consistent Atlantic swells make it a perfect all-year surfing destination. The summer is great for beginners and intermediate surfers because the waves are not as powerful. The winter is the best time for seasoned surfers as the ocean delivers strong winter swells, which result in wave faces regularly higher than 6-8 feet.
For logistics and safety reasons you can only use the equipment during our lessons.
Your little ones are warmly welcome from the age of 7, provided they are comfortable in the water, good swimmers, and able to speak English.
For children aged 7 to 12, we can only offer private or semi-private lessons (if you have two kids) to ensure they receive the best care and attention from our instructors, ensuring their safety.
Depending on their height and prior experience, we might be able to include them in a group lesson from age 10, though we still recommend private or semi-private lessons for maximum attention and enjoyment. To ensure smooth operations, we kindly request that children up to the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult. Our utmost priority is to ensure that everyone has a fantastic time and feels safe throughout the experience!
