Where do we teach?
We take you to surf beaches that match your skill level, including famous surf spots like Arrifana, Monte Clerigo, and Amoreira, plus the local Lagos beach, Meia Praia, perfect for beginners and families. During our surf lessons in Portugal on the west coast of the Algarve with Algarve Watersport, you’ll learn the essentials of waves, currents, tides, and equipment while mastering how to paddle and handle your surfboard in the water. As a family-friendly surf school, we tailor lessons for all levels, ensuring a fun and safe experience right here in Lagos.
Between June and August, we mostly surf on the West Coast, but we also use nearby spots like Meia Praia when there’s a south swell, giving you more chances to catch the perfect wave.

Surf Theory
At the beginning of the surf course, you will get to know the characteristics of the waves, currents and tides. Your surf instructor will also tell you the basics about the surf equipment.
Correct Technique
We will teach you everything about surfing in Portugal! At the end of the surf lesson, you will be able to paddle, take-off and dealing with the board without putting yourself or your surf mates in danger.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The lesson times are solely determined by the waves and tides, and the duration of a trip is approximately 4-5 hours. As the wave and tide conditions are constantly changing, we will announce the exact meeting time at 18:00 the day before your lesson. Rest assured that we will schedule the lessons according to your skill level and the prevailing conditions. Our aim is to provide you with the best possible experience!
For logistics and safety reasons, you can only use the equipment during our lessons. But believe us, after 1.5 hours in the water for a few days, you won’t have the energy for extra surfing! :D
Of course, there is a possibility of joining more lessons or renting equipment if the instructors allow it, but this decision is made day by day at the camp.
Although the legal maximum is 8, we keep groups smaller for the highest quality instruction and engagement.
Meia Praia and Arrifana are top surf spots in/ near Lagos for beginners. Meia Praia offers easy access and gentle waves, great for your first ride, while Arrifana has consistent surf and a fun vibe. We choose the best spot each day by checking the weather, tides, and swells, ensuring you get safe, ideal conditions to learn and enjoy surfing!
Your little ones are warmly welcome from the age of 7, provided they are comfortable in the water, good swimmers, and able to speak English.
For children aged 7 to 12, we can only offer private or semi-private lessons (if you have two kids) to ensure they receive the best care and attention from our instructors, ensuring their safety.
Depending on their height and prior experience, we might be able to include them in a group lesson from age 10, though we still recommend private or semi-private lessons for maximum attention and enjoyment. To ensure smooth operations, we kindly request that children up to the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult. Our utmost priority is to ensure that everyone has a fantastic time and feels safe throughout the experience!
