What does a wing foil week actually look like?

Wing foiling has three things to learn at the same time: controlling the wing, balancing on the board, and — once the foil lifts — keeping yourself in the air without touching the water. The good news is that each piece is learnable, and they all click together faster than most people expect.

Your week follows conditions, not a fixed timetable. Instructors check wind and water the evening before, choose the best spot for your level — Meia Praia or the flat-water Alvor Lagoon — and confirm your session time. You’ll know by the time you go to dinner where you’re heading the next morning.

Day 1: Control the wing and get on the board

You start on land. How to inflate, hold, and control a wing. How it generates power and how to dump power instantly. Then into shallow water — walking with the wing, feeling the pull, learning to depower. By the end of day one most people are standing on the board and starting to feel how the wing moves them.

Days 2 to 3: Learning to ride and starting to foil

Board under your feet, wing in your hands. You’re riding the board on the water and working on balance — staying upright as speed builds and the foil starts to lift. This is where the real learning happens. You fall a lot. Then you fall less. The foil begins to rise, and you start to feel what it means to be above the water.

Days 4 to 5: First foil rides above the water

Putting it all together. Consistent foil rides, controlled direction changes, learning to read the wind. For most guests, days four and five are when wing foiling stops feeling like a lesson and starts feeling like a sport they own.

Wake foil — optional addon on non-wind days The Wake Park is 10 minutes from camp. On light-wind days you can add a wake foil session on the cable — same foil, no wind needed. It’s one of the best ways to build foil balance fast. Just ask in the office the evening before.

Frequently asked questions

No experience needed for the Zero to Hero package — it’s built for complete beginners. No surfing, kitesurfing, or windsurfing background required. You’ll start on land, then in shallow water, before progressing to riding. Minimum age is 13.
In wing foiling you hold a lightweight handheld inflatable wing — there are no lines, no kite bar, and no power system to manage independently from your body. You can drop the wing instantly and it just drifts next to you. The learning curve is shorter than kitesurfing because the equipment is simpler. Combined with a hydrofoil board, you rise above the water surface and glide almost silently.
The Algarve’s thermal wind is one of the most reliable in Europe — it builds naturally each afternoon from late spring through autumn. On genuinely calm days (rare between April and October) we switch to wake foiling at the Wake Park. Wake foiling uses the same board and develops the same balance and foil technique, just towed by a cable instead of powered by wind.
Maximum 4 students per instructor. Zero to Hero starts with one group theory session, then moves to semi-private lessons — just 2 students per instructor. Intermediate package is entirely semi-private. You get far more personal attention than a standard group class.
Everything you need for the week: 7 nights accommodation at The Kitehouse, 5 days of wing foil instruction, all equipment (wing, foilboard, wetsuit, harness), breakfast and dinner daily, daily yoga sessions, and transport to the spot. The only extras are lunch and drinks at the bar.
Yes. We offer 6 sports: kite, surf, wing foil, wakeboard, SUP, and windsurf. Switch mid-week by telling the office by 4 PM the day before. Activity changes may carry an extra charge depending on what you switch to.
Faro Airport is about 70 km away — roughly an hour’s drive. We offer airport transfers for €80 per booking (split between guests). Buses run from Faro and Lisbon, and car rental is available at both airports. See our guide to getting to Lagos.
June through September offers the most consistent thermal winds — ideal for wing foiling. July and August are peak months for wind and warmth. April, May and October are quieter, lower-cost, and still have plenty of wind days. We run camps April through October.
A deposit secures your booking. More than 6 weeks out: full refund minus deposit. Between 6 and 4 weeks: deposit forfeited. Closer to the start: partial charges apply. Full terms on our Terms & Conditions page.
