Your Windsurf Week
Five days on Alvor Lagoon — flat water, consistent thermal wind, and an instructor-to-student ratio that actually lets you improve. Mornings on the water, afternoons free to explore Lagos, evenings at the Kitehouse.
Monday — Rigging & First Sail
Morning rigging workshop: how to tune your sail, choose the right size, and rig safely. Then straight onto the water. Beginners start with balance and board control; intermediates start with harness work and footstrap adjustment.
Tuesday — Meteorology & Tactics
Theory session covering Algarve wind patterns, thermal cycles, and how to read conditions. Then back on the water — choosing the right moment to tack, reading gusts, positioning for upwind runs.
Wednesday & Thursday — Focused Drills
Instructors identify your specific weak points and set targeted drills. Beginners consolidate water-starting and upwind sailing. Intermediates work on gybes, carves, and harness efficiency.
Friday — Free Sailing & Next Steps
Consolidate everything. Instructors stay on the water but give you space to apply skills independently. Debrief includes personalised notes on how to keep progressing after you leave.
Where We Sail
Alvor Lagoon
15-min drive from Lagos · Primary windsurf spot
A tidal lagoon protected from Atlantic swell, with flat water and consistent thermal winds that build from mid-morning and hold through early afternoon. Shallow enough to stand in everywhere, clean sand bottom.
No chop to fight, no current, no ocean confusion. You rig on the beach, walk into flat water, and focus entirely on technique. This is why progression in Lagos is faster than on open beaches.
- Flat protected water — no swell or ocean chop
- Consistent Algarve thermal wind from late morning
- Shallow throughout — always easy to recover
- Van transport included from the Kitehouse
Spot selection is made each morning based on wind direction and strength. Instructors always brief you before heading out — you’ll know what to expect before you rig.
What Campers Say
“I came as a complete beginner and by Friday I was sailing upwind comfortably. The instructors were incredibly patient and the small group made all the difference.”
“The Alvor Lagoon is perfect for learning. Flat water, warm sunshine, and the instructors really knew how to spot what was holding me back. Gybes sorted by day 4.”
“Best week of the year. Came solo, left with friends from four different countries. The multi-sport option was a bonus — squeezed in two surf sessions in the afternoons.”

Bringing the family?
Windsurf is one of the best family sports you can try together. It’s technical enough to be exciting, forgiving enough for all ages, and visible enough that parents and kids can watch each other from the shore. We’ve had families where parents and children learned side by side on the same lagoon.
Parents and children progress in separate groups with age-appropriate coaching, then meet up between sessions. Bungalows and apartments with kitchens are available for families who want their own space.
- Children welcome from age 8 (instructor assessment at check-in)
- Separate age-appropriate coaching groups
- Family bungalows and apartments available
- Same lagoon — parents and kids within sight at all times
